Keeping Your Members Involved

Perhaps the hardest task is keeping members motivated and interested in your tenants association after the first flush of enthusiasm.

Often its aims take a long time to realise, so in your aims set time scales.

Change will not happen overnight, so members may quickly become bored and disillusioned.

So as well as long term targets, aim for things that can be achieved in the short and medium term as well, such as producing a newsletter, organising coffee mornings, arrange liaison meetings with local housing staff etc.

If members see something happening, support will grow, but if after the first meeting nothing is heard from your tenants association for months, membership will soon decline.

Make sure you keep the members regularly informed about what is going on.
