What is a Constitution

Basically, a constitution is a legal document that sets out the aims and objectives of a group and defines how the group will conduct its business.

A constitution should clearly show how the group will be run, that it is open, democratic and representative, who are eligible to be members of the group and how members can influence decisions of the group.
