Getting Your Group Recognised by Inverclyde Council
As a responsible provider of low cost housing, Inverclyde Council recognises the need to work in partnership with tenants’ and residents’ groups who democratically represent local tenants.
In order to make sure such groups are representative and accountable any group wishing to be recognised by the Council must meet basic recognition criteria.
Housing Scotland Act 2001 and Recognition
The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 says that only formally recognised tenants and residents associations will be entitled to the following benefits:
1. The ability to apply for grants
2. To work formally with Council staff
3. The opportunity to participate in information sessions, conferences and training
4. The invitation to be involved in formal consultations and sub groups
5. The drawing up of formal participation agreements with the Council.
